Philip Shaw-Stewart, CCO, Citizen Ticket
Phil's journey in events started in electronic music events between 2007 and 2013, he co-promoted events across London, Newcastle and Edinburgh including iconic venues such as Summer Hall. It was that hands-on experience of what can go wrong with ticketing that led Phil and his business partner Harry Boisseau to found Citizen Ticket in 2013.
Starting as a side project alongside their day jobs, they invested everything they had into building the platform from the ground up. By 2016 they were full-time, and in 2017 secured their first round of investment, using it to develop their full ticketing system and proprietary blockchain infrastructure to combat ticket touting and fraud.
Through the late 2010s, Citizen Ticket became a trusted partner for Scotland's events sector, working with the likes of Fringe by the Sea, Edinburgh Cocktail Week, Hidden Door, and Borders Book Festival.
Post-pandemic, Citizen Ticket expanded significantly through the acquisitions of TicketSellers and Eventree, bringing together two decades of greenfield festival ticketing experience and the UK's leading accreditation software platform, with Citizen Tickets innovative ticketing platform. Today, the combined business serves a global roster of clients including Glastonbury, Burning Man, the San Francisco Giants, and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
Phil's current focus is on harnessing the wealth of behavioural and transactional data generated across Citizen Ticket's platforms, and using AI to turn that data into actionable insight for event organisers, helping them plan smarter, understand their audiences better, and deliver more effectively.
