BILLY GARRETT

Billy Garrett, Director of Culture, Tourism and Events, Glasgow Life

As the strategic lead for Glasgow Life’s Culture, Tourism and Events portfolio, and previously Director of Sport, Billy is responsible for the promotion of Glasgow as a leading cultural and major events centre with an unrivalled leisure, business tourism and major events offer.

A key part of Billy’s remit includes directing Glasgow’s Major Events Strategy; working with local and national agencies, major cultural bodies, and UK and global sports federations to attract world-class prestigious events to the city.  Billy has been involved in the delivery of some of Glasgow’s highest-profile events and their associated cultural programmes; most recently the city’s hosting of the UCI World Cycling Championships (August 2023) and the World Athletics Indoor Championships (March 2024).

He is the Senior Responsible Officer for Glasgow Life for the delivery of the Commonwealth Games 2026 event in Glasgow.  Glasgow Life will also be playing a key role in conjunction with the SFA in the hosting of the European Football Championships in 2028, and the associated fan zones and community events surrounding this major event.

Billy’s role underpins Glasgow Life’s commitment to improving the mental, physical and economic wellbeing of Glasgow’s communities through the power of events, culture and sport.
