Winner of Best B&B or Guest House Experience
Ardtorna, Oban

Ardtorna is a modern purpose built 5 star property overlooking loch Creran just outside Oban, in Argyll.

Owner Karen is always looking to innovative and push boundaries of excellence within the hospitality sector. She, at all times, strives to exceed every customer expectation making sure all have a truly wonderful, memorable stay / experience. 

Her continued success since opening the doors in 2010 is testament to this. She never rests on her laurels, as there’s always a plan for the next step of innovation making her business stand out from the crowd.

What makes them a national winner?
Small details matter, as well as ‘out of the box’ thinking and Ardtorna is exceptional at both. From a salt and spice station, pillow mist, and a ‘spray while you stay’ Jo Malone station, many of their initiatives would be in place at a five star hotel. They understand the value of excellence and are able to leverage this when it comes to maximising their guests’ value for money.

The Cross Keys Inn, Ettrickbridge

The Cross Keys Inn is a traditional 17th-century pub with a big heart and plenty of character. When Rory and Vicki Steel took over in January 2023, they set out to give it a new lease of life, undergoing an extensive renovation to restore and reimagine the business.


With community events at its heart and a strong focus on quality and hospitality, the Cross Keys Inn has once again become the beating heart of Ettrickbridge.

What makes them a national winner?
“Quality, community and character”. Judges applauded this business’s focus on local sourcing, memorable service and team development, where staff are supported to progress and thrive. The Cross Keys Inn doesn’t just pour great pints – it pours energy back into the community, leading by example and lifting others with collaboration and care. A true cornerstone of hospitality! 


Winner of Best Business Event
The 36th International Papillomavirus Conference 2024 at the EICC, Edinburgh

In November 2024, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) welcomed over 1,600 delegates from across the globe for the 36th International Papillomavirus Conference (IPVC). Bringing world leaders in science and healthcare to Scotland, the event advanced research, innovation, and collaboration in tackling HPV and related cancers. 

True to its Scottish setting, IPVC 2024 blended international expertise with local speakers, cultural exchange, and a year-long legacy programme.

By raising awareness and boosting vaccination rates in schools and communities, its impact extended far beyond the conference centre. Leaving a legacy that will prevent cancer diagnoses, save lives, and inspire future progress.

What makes them a national winner?
The 36th International Papillomavirus Conference 2024 impressed judges with its extraordinary impact on Edinburgh and Scotland. Through a citywide HPV awareness campaign, vaccine uptake increased from 40% to 60% in one school, demonstrating immediate results. The event combined significant economic and social benefits with outstanding collaboration, leaving a lasting public-health legacy.

Solsgirth Home Farm, Dollar

Solsgirth Home Farm is a rural destination near Dollar, Clackmannanshire, combining sustainable agriculture, immersive visitor experiences, and quality self-catering accommodation.

Set on a historic 360-acre estate, the farm features four unique properties, including a restored 1722 farmhouse and three elegant spaces linked to Solsgirth House. 

Since acquiring the site in 2019, we’ve focused on restoration, regeneration, and reconnecting people with food, nature, and rural life.

Alongside our accommodation, we host regular markets, farm tours, and community events, creating a vibrant, inclusive hub that celebrates Scotland’s rural heritage while inspiring sustainable tourism for the future.

This sustainable tourism offering actively supports community inclusion, education, and long-term local impact. 


Winner of Best Eating Experience
Ninth Wave Restaurant, Isle of Mull

Ninth Wave Restaurant is an innovative restaurant located on the wild moors of Mull. It has become a destination venue,  offering 4-5 course luxury lunch and a truly unique dining experience.

Owners Carla & John Lamont invite you to enjoy seafood fresh from their own boat, organic island meats and interesting produce from their Highland croft garden.

Masterchef the Professionals quarter-finalist,  Carla takes you on a gastronomic adventure including a talk and tour of her unusual herb garden. Chef Carla is also your very own culinary guide during the lunch, delivering entertaining and informative presentations relating to each course.

What makes them a national winner?
Ninth Wave impressed judges with a thorough, insightful entry that revealed the couple’s exceptional commitment to their restaurant, the products they grow, and the environment. Their creativity and ambition – from producing 85% of their fruit and vegetables on-site to standout initiatives like their plan to be included in a Hollywood Movie – go above and beyond, creating a unique dining experience while fostering community collaboration and sustainability. A truly outstanding and high-scoring entry.

Winner of Best Hotel Experience
Kildrummy Inn, Alford

Kildrummy Inn is a multi award-winning, family-run hotel and restaurant set in the dramatic landscape of rural Aberdeenshire. Owned and managed by husband-and-wife team David and Sophie Littlewood, the inn combines Scottish tradition with contemporary luxury. With just four individually designed bedrooms, a whisky snug, private dining and an acclaimed Michelin-Guide restaurant, every detail is personal and considered. 

Known for warm hospitality, seasonal local food, and a strong commitment to sustainability, Kildrummy Inn offers guests an experience that is both authentically Scottish and quietly indulgent. A true hidden gem, it continues to shine on both regional and national stages.

Remote in setting but rich in charm, Kildrummy Inn captivated judges with its luxurious décor, peaceful ambience, and sweeping Don Valley views. The experience is elevated by a professional yet warm local team who look after guests from the moment of booking to the moment they depart. Rooms are beautifully appointed, and the food – sourced from the garden or nearby estate – is well presented and deeply rooted in provenance. With an unwavering commitment to quality, comfort, and the overall guest experience, Kildrummy Inn stands out as a true rural gem.

Knockinaam Lodge, Stranraer

Knockinaam Lodge is a 19th-century country house hotel on the coast near Portpatrick in Dumfries & Galloway. With ten individually designed bedrooms, fine dining led by Head Chef Tony Pierce, and a reputation for warm Scottish hospitality, the Lodge offers guests an intimate and luxurious experience. The property is also historically notable as the meeting place of Winston Churchill and General Eisenhower during World War II. 

Today, Knockinaam remains dedicated to celebrating the best of local produce, its unique coastal setting, and the rich heritage of the region.

What makes them a national winner?
The team’s passion for the local area including the history and heritage, supporting local businesses and showcasing local produce shone through. Their commitment to not compromising on quality whilst also reducing food miles was commended by the judges, as was their collaboration with local businesses and partners to create luxury exclusive packages for their guests. The achievement of the Galloway & Southern Ayrshire UNESCO Biosphere Certification Mark for their commitment to local businesses and the local community is very impressive.


Winner of Best Outdoor or Adventure Experience
Newton Farm Holidays & Tours, Forfar

Newton Farm Holidays & Tours is an award-winning working family farm in scenic Angus, offering inclusive, hands-on outdoor adventures for all ages and abilities. From Highland cow grooming to alpaca walking, goat cuddles, lambing, wildlife photography, and farm-to-fork food tours, every experience is personal, educational, and unforgettable. 

Hosts Graeme, Scott, and Louise Nicoll bring their farm to life, connecting visitors with animals, nature, and the real story behind their food. Accessibility, sustainability, and heartfelt hospitality are at the core of everything they do, creating life-changing farm experiences where every visitor is genuinely welcomed, engaged, and inspired.

What makes them a national winner?
An exemplary entry showcasing outstanding sustainable practices across all areas of the business. With a clear passion for education and delivering unique experiences on a working farm, the impact on the local community has been transformative. Consistent year-on-year investment has diversified Newton Farm’s offerings into a truly award-winning enterprise. 


Winner of Best Self-Catering or Unique Stay
Loch Ken Eco Bothies, Castle Douglas

Richard and Heather have been working within the tourism industry both running activities and self catering accommodation for over 30 years.  The idea to provide unique off grid self catering stays was sparked from George Clarkes amazing spaces from which their first bothies were designed and featured.  

More latterly the Osprey was designed to demonstrate that you can combine a beautiful place to stay whilst at the same time making minimal impact on the environment.  All bothies feature their own bio rock sewage disposal systems, are off grid and supported by a bore hole that provides clean and crystal clear water.  Each bothy has its own bespoke wood fired hot tub, a kayak and or stand up paddle boards from which guests can explore the wonders of Loch Ken.

What makes them a national winner?
Loch Ken Eco Bothies offer more than a stay – they offer an immersion in nature, sustainability and design. Judges loved their off-grid approach, solar power, borehole water and eco-ambassador role in the region. With paddleboards, kayaks, school engagement and biosphere certification, these bothies blend style with conscience. A truly exceptional and unique experience, and a shining model of eco-conscious hospitality.  


Winner of Best Visitor Attraction
Highland Wildlife Park, Kingussie

Highland Wildlife Park is home to the Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, the wildlife conservation charity. We have a bold vision of a world where nature is protected, valued and loved. From wildcats in the Cairngorms National Park to giant anteaters in Brazil, we are dedicated to saving species from extinction.

The opening of Scotland’s Wildlife Discovery Centre at Highland Wildlife Park has further enhanced an exceptional visitor experience, with our new community outreach programme focused on making our natural world more inclusive and accessible.

What makes them a national winner?
The judges commended the wildlife park’s approach to responsible tourism, from a discounted scheme for those on Universal credit, their work with schools, and details like changing the colour of the toilet seats to make them more visible for those with visual impairment – truly committed from the large scale to the granular detail.  Their strategic approach, well evidenced performance and clear actions to achieve their aims all while meeting the charitable aims was remarkable. 


Winner of Climate Action Award
Edinburgh Zoo, Edinburgh

The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland is a wildlife conservation charity with a bold vision of a world where nature is protected, valued and loved.

Edinburgh Zoo and Highland Wildlife Park are our gateways to the natural world through which visitors can experience the wonders of nature.

We help people learn about the enormous challenges facing wildlife and discover how we can save species from extinction through conservation science, animal care, education and by taking action in our daily lives and communities.

What makes them a national winner?
This business impressed the judges with their bold and innovative approach to climate action – with heat pumps in the rhino house, a new solar meadow, and engagement with staff through a bonus scheme. Their commitment spans every department and job role, with collaboration across the sector to inspire wider change. With a strong focus on biodiversity, conservation, and carbon reduction, they’ve truly embedded a culture of climate leadership and accountability throughout their practices. 


Winner of Employer of the Year
The Torridon, Annat

The Torridon is Scotland’s most northerly 5 star hotel - So secluded that you leave the world behind, so different that you forget the daily routine, so inspiring that you can spend your free time being truly free. We offer true escape in a five-star boutique resort where you can dine, sleep and dream by majestic mountains and awaken to a world of possibility.  

So far in 2025 we have been awarded Best Hotel, Scotland in the Sunday Times, included in Conde Nast Traveler Readers’ Choice awards and won Employer of the year and Hotel experience of the year at the Highlands and Islands Tourism Awards.

What makes them a national winner?
The Torridon impressed judges with a clear, data-driven entry that demonstrated the real impact of its personal development initiatives. Their strong focus on building a positive, supportive culture - one that actively develops and retains its workforce - stood out. With around 80% of staff living on site, the team described The Torridon as a true home, reinforcing the care put into creating a high-quality work and living environment for everyone.

From innovative pre-event tools to detailed information for staff, performers and attendees, their commitment to inclusion is clear. Leading the way, they earned the UK’s first-ever Platinum award from Attitude is Everything for their inclusive policies. With a 999% rise in accessible attendance since 2017, their impact is undeniable. 


Winner of Individual of the Year
Sheila Gilmore, VisitArran

Sheila has been with VisitArran, the not-for-profit DMO for her native island, since 2012.  In that time she has led the organisation to become an award winning, and respected DMO, both nationally and internationally. Community is at the heart of Arran’s tourism offering, and through Sheila’s extensive links, VisitArran now has over 250 businesses and community groups involved as partners. 

Arran has had a challenging few years, and Sheila deals with stranded passengers, expedition ships, PR & fam trips, marketing, business support and no end of visitor queries. Sheila is also Chair of the newly accredited Arran UNESCO Global Geopark, Secretary of Brodick Highland Games, and the Community Strand lead on the Arran Island Plan Steering Group.

What makes them a national winner?
Sheila’s tireless voluntary leadership was instrumental in Arran achieving prestigious UNESCO Global Geopark status. Through managing the Arran Trust, she has directed visitor donations into meaningful conservation projects with real, measurable impact. Her unwavering commitment to responsible tourism and visitor support drives sustainable growth - making a lasting difference to both the local community and Arran’s international standing. 


Winner of Innovation Award
Trimontium Museum, Melrose

The Trimontium Museum is in the heart of Melrose in the Scottish Borders. We tell the story of Trimontium, the largest Roman fort and settlement north of Hadrian’s Wall, and the interaction between the invading Romans and the native Iron Age tribes they encountered. We are a volunteer led organisation with a small team of dedicated trustees and staff. 

The museum is home to one the finest collection of Roman military objects in Britain (if not the Empire), alongside which we display Roman and native Iron Age finds from across the Scottish Borders & beyond. We use the latest technologies to assist interpretation and engagement, run a popular, monthly talk series, work with schools and students from across the region and run an extensive archaeological volunteering programme with partner organisations & universities.

What makes them a national winner?
Trimontium Museum shows just what can be achieved with vision and creativity. Judges praised their brilliant use of technology to make invisible history visible, tackling real visitor challenges with innovation. With bold ambitions, measurable goals, and a focus on community, environment and inclusion, proving that innovation isn’t about size – it’s about imagination. A small museum with mighty impact!

Winner of Outstanding Cultural Event or Festival
Edinburgh International Book Festival, Edinburgh

The Edinburgh International Book Festival is a charity which celebrates and shares the power of writers, their ideas, and the words they craft to illuminate, challenge, and inspire.  Founded in 1983, it brings together authors and audiences of all ages to share stories, spark ideas, and encourage discussion. 

Held in the heart of the city at the Edinburgh Futures Institute, each August it presents almost 700 events featuring writers and thinkers from around the world across its children and families, young adults, adults, and schools programmes, brings writers into community settings such as libraries, hospitals and prisons, and streams events online.

What makes them a national winner?
A powerful cultural celebration rooted in place, this festival plays a key role in Edinburgh’s status as a UNESCO City of Literature. With bold new leadership, exciting partnerships, and a commitment to accessibility and sustainability, it continues to evolve. From 'pay what you can' access to outreach in schools, hospitals, and prisons, it inspires far beyond the festival site, honouring Scotland’s rich tradition of storytelling and critical thought with an innovative, vast, and inspiring programme. 


Winner of Outstanding Sporting Event
Tour of Britain - Scottish Borders, St Boswells

The Scottish Borders proudly hosted the opening stage of the prestigious UCI 2.PRO Tour of Britain Men’s race, that brought elite international cycling to the region. Thousands of spectators lined the route, with vibrant fan zones and local activation spaces in towns of Kelso and Melrose creating a festival atmosphere and celebrating community pride. 

The event delivered a major economic and cultural boost, showcasing the Borders’ stunning landscapes, warm hospitality, and organisational excellence. This stage reinforced the region’s growing reputation as a world-class destination for cycling, tourism, and major outdoor events.

What makes them a national winner?
The Tour of Britain impressed judges with a world-class, inclusive event that combined elite international cycling with strong community engagement. Seamlessly organised and safe, it showcased Scotland’s scenery and culture, delivered high-profile media coverage, and supported sustainable, responsible practices. From vibrant spectator experiences to lasting educational and legacy projects, the event cemented its status as a flagship sporting and cultural occasion.

Hugh MacKay, Highland Experience Tours

I’m a proud Highlander, and nothing makes me happier than sharing Scotland’s stories, landscapes, and culture with visitors from around the world. After 16 and a half years in the military where I had the privilege of leading teams in high-stress environments and travelling to 25 countries, gaining experience in so many other places. I decided to follow my heart and move into tourism in early 2024.

Guiding has felt like a natural fit for me, combining my love of meeting people with my pride in my homeland. Since starting out, I’ve been lucky enough to deliver over 200 tours, meet incredible guests from every corner of the globe, and receive more than 150 five-star reviews. I was deeply honoured to be voted “Person of the Year” by my company and nominated “Rookie of the Year” by my peers in my very first season, and I’ve now added winning the honour of the Rising Star Award for the Central and East Regional Awards.

What makes them a national winner?
An outstanding role model in the early stages of his tourism career, Hugh exemplifies passion, leadership, and dedication. Transitioning from a 16-year military career, he has embraced continuous learning and delivered exceptional service, earning over 150 five-star reviews. His ambassadorial spirit and impressive achievements, including internal awards, mark him as a rising star and an inspiration within the industry.

Marina Huggett

This year’s winner, Marina Huggett, exemplifies everything the award stands for- leadership, innovation, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

Marina’s journey began in the hospitality sector while still at school, sparking a lifelong dedication to service and standards. Today, her influence stretches across Scotland, shaping strategy, mentoring future talent, and supporting businesses of all sizes.

Under Marina’s leadership, Achnagairn Estate has become a globally recognised luxury events venue. Through her consultancy firm, she has helped countless businesses build resilience and quality-driven practices. Her work with organisations such as HIT Scotland, Visit Inverness Loch Ness, and the Scottish Tourism Alliance has been instrumental in defining the values that underpin modern Scottish tourism: equality, excellence, and respect for people and place.

Marina has also played a pivotal role in the success of the Highlands and Islands Thistle Awards and the Scottish Thistle Awards, ensuring they continue to celebrate and inspire the very best in the industry.

Marina leads by example, championing sustainability and inclusivity while driving innovation and growth. She is admired for her fairness, respected for her leadership, and beloved for her generosity in developing others.
