JUDGING

50+
industry judges recruited
each year

The Scottish Thistle Awards are awards for the industry, judged by the industry.

A number of independent industry experts make up our judging panels, recruited based on their experience within the tourism industry and each with specific knowledge relating to different sectors of the industry. We strive to achieve a good regional spread and sector representation across the judging panels and we are grateful to our judges for volunteering their time and expertise.

Judging process

Step 1
Each of our judges review and independently score every entry in their assigned category(s)

Step 2
Each judging panel then meets to discuss the entries in more detail. They will compare the scoring and draw upon the evidence provided by each entrant against the category criteria in order to complete the challenging task of agreeing a longlist.

Step 3
Virtual engagement sessions (fancy word for interviews) take place between longlisted entrants and the judging panel – this is a chance for judges to hear directly from the entrants themselves, dig a little deeper into what they have written in their entry and hear, feel and see the passion shine through.

Step 4
Following the virtual engagement sessions, the judges come together once more to agree a shortlist of finalists and a winner for each region.

Entry feedback is available upon request. To request feedback, please email info@scottishthistleawards.co.uk.

What do our judges have to say?

I was happy to give up my time to help with the judging as I think it’s important we recognise the great work that our tourism businesses and event organisers are doing. It also gives other businesses and organisations something to aspire to, as there are so many great examples out there that deserve to be celebrated.

My advice to entrants would be to really think through and showcase what they offer visitors that deliver those memorable and enriching experiences, which prompt  repeat visits and generate word of mouth recommendations.

Take time to read the questions you need to answer for each section. Ask a colleague or someone to proof read your answers before you submit them and make sure you've provided the best information and evidence for each question.

If you would like to be considered to join a judging panel, please contact us to introduce yourself and include a summary of your industry experience. We’d be delighted to hear from you.
